On the Continuity Set of an Omega Rational Function Dedicated to Serge Grigorieff on the Occasion of His 60th Birthday

چکیده
In this paper, we study the continuity of rational functions realized by Büchi finite state transducers. It has been shown by Prieur that it can be decided whether such a function is continuous. We prove here that surprisingly, it cannot be decided whether such a function f has at least one point of continuity and that its continuity set C(f) cannot be computed. In the case of a synchronous rational function, we show that its continuity set is rational and that it can be computed. Furthermore we prove that any rational Π02-subset of Σ ω for some alphabet Σ is the continuity set C(f) of an ω-rational synchronous function f defined on Σω . 1991 Mathematics Subject Classification. 68Q05;68Q45; 03D05. متن کاملM ay 2 00 8 ANY COUNTEREXAMPLE TO MAKIENKO ’ S CONJECTURE IS AN INDECOMPOSABLE CONTINUUM
Makienko's conjecture, a proposed addition to Sul-livan's dictionary, can be stated as follows: The Julia set of a rational function R : C ∞ → C ∞ has buried points if and only if no component of the Fatou set is completely invariant under the second iterate of R. We prove Makienko's conjecture for rational functions with Julia sets that are decomposable continua. This is a very broad collectio...
متن کاملDedicated to Professor Andy Majda on the occasion of his 60th birthday POLE-BASED APPROXIMATION OF THE FERMI-DIRAC FUNCTION
Two approaches for the efficient rational approximation of the Fermi-Dirac function are discussed: one uses the contour integral representation and conformal mapping and the other is based on a version of the multipole representation of the Fermi-Dirac function that uses only simple poles. Both representations have logarithmic computational complexity. They are of great interest for electronic ...
